REVIEW: Award-winning author Ruth Zavitsanos has drawn readers back to the old west with her new historical romance novel; Flight of Little Dove. This unique story tells a captivating tale of one woman's plight to make her way in the world and the lie she lives to save herself from utter ruin.
Historical Romance Tale; Flight of Little Dove
Flight of Little Dove is a romance to be sure, but it is also a story of the Wild West and things women with gumption had to do to survive in such a rough era. The story relates to that past beautifully and is historically believable. Little Dove was a captured white woman who was so determined to survive amongst white society once again that she became a deceased victim of an Indian raid, taking on the woman's life and shedding her own. How Little Dove takes on the persona is a beautiful stroke of destiny and the path she finds herself on is one not easily taken.

I read The Villa Dog this afternoon and loved it!  I shed a tear at how

totally sweet Sole is. I can't wait to share it with the kids.” Pam R.

My kids love the book, one wishes we could all be one day in Tuscany

enjoying the weather, people and a four legged friend.” T. G. (Germany)

This story will show kids that they can talk to anyone, even a dog when they are sad and begin to feel better. It was also great reading from the dog's point of view. Looking forward to more books by Ruth Zavitsanos!” Lori

I’m so excited to share the news of my first full-length novel recently released by Whiskey Creek Press. FLIGHT OF LITTLE DOVE has been a very long journey to publication. However, I am so pleased with the cover art and editorial staff of WCP that I know the wait was meant to be for this collaboration to come together. In the back of the book is a Questions for Discussion section that will be helpful for book clubs. If you choose my book to be a book club selection I will be there (through Skype or in person) to discuss the book. I’m sure you’ll find the characters believable and engrossing as the intriguing story unravels and my heroine evolves with the hero at her side (and sometimes he is the one she least wants there.)

Now Available, THE KONA DOG, set in Maui, Hawaii

My three Children’s Chapter Books, THE VILLA DOG, THE OLD FORTRESS DOG and THE KONA DOG have received five star reviews with their

heart-warming stories told through the dog’s point of view. I’m pleased

these books are being embraced by children, adults and the educational community.

Each story is as different as the dog on the cover, taking the reader

to an exotic location. All are available at www.wildchildpublishing.com, Amazon, kindle or itunes.

THE VILLA DOG: After spending a week at a villa in Tuscany, I was inspired to write this story about a dog who greets the guests. His mission is to make them happy. When one girl is sad he is the only one able to uncover the secret to her sadness and find what will make her happy.

THE OLD FORTRESS DOG:  Leonidas, a soldier in ancient times, thought of others before himself. He was a great protector and hero to the Greeks. In this story, a dedicated dog, named after Leonidas, is the protector of THE OLD FORTRESS, an ancient ruin on the Greek Island of Corfu. Come along with Leo as he shares his story of helping a boy to find his own strength and courage from with in.

THE KONA DOG takes place on the island of Maui. AKela, the coffee plantation dog, must help his master find a way to keep the bank for shutting down the plant. Akela captures the hearts and encourages the efforts of the banker’s daughters.

Little Dove falls in love, only to find her new persona is a mail-order bride to someone else. She deals with the struggles of having three personalities living within her; that of her former white woman self: Emma, her Indian captive self: Little Dove, and her newly formed self: Margaret. The way the author ties them all together is beautifully done and makes for a very light romance read.

There are difficult things to read about of course; death and the struggles familiar to people of that day and age, but it does not make this novel too deep to bear. It is still a light read suitable for any time of day or night when you long for a novel to get lost in. The Flight of Little Dove is a perfect example of escapist literature with the power to captivate and enthrall you.

Praise for Western Romance in Flight of Little Dove

One of the best things about Flight of Little Dove is the vibrant characters. Ruth Zavitsanos truly has a talent for breathing life into her characters and making them believable people you can relate to and easily come to know. Little Dove and Seb especially are so full of life, that you immediately become emotionally invested in their outcomes. You want them to have a happily ever after.

The hardships of this novel also make it a pleasure to read because the author stays true to the realistic truths of the wild west and does not make is simply a fairy tale. Bad things happen to the characters, everything is not all perfect, which lends a stability to the story. Things often don't go in the direction the characters would prefer and the author handled those situations with a beautiful finesse and a relatable dialogue.

Problems With Literary Fiction in Flight of Little Dove

To be clear, I do thoroughly recommend this book to any historical romance fan, however there were a couple of discrepancies that detract from the story a little. If, like me, you notice every miniscule detail of a book because you become so thoroughly invested in a novel, then you will notice a few editing details and contradictions in Flight of Little Dove. Keep in mind that I do still recommend this novel, but I noticed the author had said one character's name when I am sure she meant another and had a few minor mistakes of that sort.

I also thought some more detailing of the scenery and such would be nice. At the beginning of the book, the protagonist jumps from her first setting so fast that I longed for her to return to it. I was sure the main character would go back to the first setting because I simply didn't get enough detail from it. That part in Little Dove's life was important, yet it was underplayed in a sense and I wanted to know more to better understand the character and her life.
